Hello everyone.
Today, I'm introducing not a camera, but a lens. My blog posts currently feature many compact digital cameras, but I plan to write more about lenses and cameras from now on! This time, I'll be introducing a Leica L39 mount lens that might not be very well-known,
the Canon 50mm F2.2, a lens with somewhat unusual specifications, including some example shots. You're not seeing things; it's F2.2. Among Canon's 50mm L39 lenses, there are six types: F0.95, F1.2, F1.4, F1.8, F2.2, and F2.8. Of these, the F1.4 and F1.8 are probably the most common. Looking at it this way, Canon really has a lot of options! Here are some examples from this lesser-known lens among them!

Even the shadows cast under the cherry blossom trees are clearly depicted. The light source shouldn't be very strong, but perhaps it's captured so well because of the wide aperture, which doesn't strain the optics. It seems to render well when stopped down. Let's look at a photo taken closer to wide open next.

Since this is close to the minimum focusing distance and wide open, the background appears a bit busy. However, the in-focus area is sharply rendered. The color reproduction is also excellent and natural.

This photo is taken from a greater distance than the previous one, so the bokeh, including the foreground bokeh, is relatively smooth. Despite the cloudy weather, which could reduce contrast, the bright yellow of the canola flowers is vividly depicted.
For an old lens, it offers manageable rendering and a compact size. Yet, it produces images with a distinct character that I highly recommend experiencing if you ever come across one.
