[With examples] The original full-frame in your pocket. - SONY Cyber-shot RX1R -

Hello~

The camera I'd like to introduce today is the SONY Cyber-shot RX1R!

As the title suggests, this camera is a monster camera with a fixed lens and a full-frame sensor! The RX1R I'm featuring today is a low-pass filter-less model with an R at the end. The original RX1 was released in 2012, and this RX1R was released a year later in 2013. The difference is that it pursues even greater resolution by omitting the low-pass filter.
First, an example image.
The overwhelming bokeh from the full-frame sensor and the depiction of the ZEISS Sonnar T*. You can easily and readily take photos that don't seem like they came from a fixed-lens camera.
I once heard from an optical designer that fixed-lens cameras are easier to produce with higher performance than when creating lenses of the same specifications for interchangeable lens cameras. Why is that? Generally, lenses for interchangeable cameras are designed to provide the most stable depiction across various cameras (image sensors). In other words, they are designed to have a high overall average score. On the other hand, with a fixed-lens camera, the image sensor is determined from the outset. This allows for lens design that takes into account the sensor's characteristics and compatibility, which is said to be very effective in suppressing vignetting and various aberrations, and in reducing size.
That got a bit long.
Here's the second example image.
You can see that every single leaf of the plants on the opposite bank of the river is clearly resolved. Furthermore, in terms of three-dimensionality and tonal expression, I feel that the characteristic of ZEISS lenses to capture even the air is faithfully carried over to this camera. The RX1 series has steadily improved its specs with new models: the RX1RII (2016) and the RX1RIII (2025). However, as the price tends to increase with each new model, many people still prefer to use the original or second-generation models. As a timeless masterpiece, why not give it a try?
